Check out the best Airport style, Airplane Fashion, cute and comfortable airport outfits, and travel outfits for long flights!
Comfort is crucial when it comes to traveling. Especially when you’re smushed up like sardines in a teeny tiny airplane.
I mean, why should I have to dress up for my in-flight movie marathon or 2-hour snooze? That’s the airplane’s job to work the runway- not mine.
Despite my hatred for ugly/uncomfortable clothes, airport style doesn’t have to sacrifice cute for comfort. There are plenty of ways to look fabulous AND feel comfortable while sporting your airport fashion.
So, you ask, what should I wear to the airport to stay comfortable AND stylish on the airplane?
Well I’m glad you asked. Fasten your seatbelts and store your luggage in the overhead bins- here are my favorite travel outfits to keep you comfortable (and stylish!) during the whole flight!
First things first, let’s start with layers!
Layering is so essential when traveling. Like ticket prices, airplane temperature is super unpredictable. Sometimes you’re freezing your butt off while other times you’re melting like a popsicle. Bringing layers can help you avoid such variable temperatures. You also save coveted space in your luggage by wearing extra clothing aboard the plane.
I always bring a light jean jacket or a thin sweatshirt when I’m headed to the airport. A perfect layering piece will be….
- Lightweight
- Warm
- Casual
- Hassle-free (easy to throw on and off)
A nice cozy cardigan is another great option if you like feeling a bit more “put together” on flights.

Shoes
Supportive shoes are the holy grail of comfortable airport outfits. You don’t want to be walking running to your gate in uncomfortable shoes. Anything slip-on/off is a great option. I love wearing my Birkenstocks because: A). They’re trendy and adorable B). They feel like you’re walking on a cloud.
I also like wearing my Nikes or just a simple casual sneaker to hug your feet while you’re sitting for hours on end.
Plus, shoes that are easy and quick to take off at airport security is a MUST. People secretly hate you when you’re holding up the security line. 🙁
Leggins/Jeggings
I feel like leggings are the epitome of comfortable airport outfits. You see everyone and their mother donning leggings these days, so it’s no surprise that these bad boys are great for crammed airplanes!
Leggings are like a second skin or comfy jammies! You can dress them up by wearing a nice top and accessorizing with cute sandals. Orrrr, you can dress them down and do it cas’ style with a messy bun and your fav sneakers.
My favorite thing about leggings is that they are non-restrictive. Maybe you won’t be doing gymnastics on the plane, but it’s nice to know you could. . . 🙂

You can find so many different stylish leggings (some that resemble regular pants or jeans!). My favorite leggings are these from lululemon (also sold on Amzon here). They are high quality and last a long time. A good investment for staying comfortable! But, if you’re not feelin’ the price tag, these leggings from Amazon are a great choice too.

Jewelry
To wear or not to wear? That is the question.
My answer? Skip it. At least if it’s metal.
It’s more of a hassle to take on and off when you’re trying to get through airport security. The detector could go off and ain’t nobody got time for that.
However, if you really want to accessorize, you could opt for a non-metal bracelet or necklace. I like wearing my apple watch while I’m traveling because you can easily upload your plane ticket to the apple wallet. This way you wont lose your ticket and have everything in one place.
These shell bracelets from Amazon are also a cute addition. They add another element to your outfit while also staying within the “comfort casual” lines.
Things to NOT Wear on an Airplane
Now that you have an idea of acceptable airplane fashion, here’s a list of what NOT to wear on the plane or to the airport:
Clunky Belts:
A wide belt is just another hassle to worry about. Unlooping a chunky, clunky belt only adds to the time spent in security. If you still prefer a belt, opt for a thin one that’s easy to slide through your belt loop. A sash also works.
Short-Shorts::
It gets really cold on airplanes and wearing super short-shorts is not a good idea if you don’t want to freeze your butt off. Plus, it’s a good idea to wear longer pants to protect your legs from the germy airplane seats. (Those seats definitely do NOT geet wiped down after each flight!)
Uncomfortable shoes
Skip the shoes you haven’t broken in or are just plain uncomfortable! I literally can’t imagine wearing painful shoes while navigating an airport. It sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Leather pants
Sticky and icky. I mean come onnnn, who’s going to sit in leather pants for hours on end in a muggy airplane? Certainly not me!
